Three years on, Samagra Shiksha employees seek basic pay, job security in Telangana

Samagra Shiksha employees in Telangana have renewed their demand for basic pay and job security, three years after an assurance from then PCC chief A Revanth Reddy. The employees also sought health cards, ex-gratia payments and wages for their strike period.

Hyderabad: Three years have passed since Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, as PCC chief, assured to implement basic pay and ensure job security for around 19,000 Samagra Shiksha employees.

However, the promises turned out to be empty words, said Dundigal Yadagiri, president of the Telangana Samagra Shiksha Employees’ Association.

According to Samagra Shiksha employees, Revanth Reddy promised to invite them to the Secretariat within a month of forming the government and resolve their long-pending issue during their protest in Hanamkonda on September 13, 2023.

However, they pointed out that those individuals who visited the protest camps have now become Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers, yet none of them responded to their issues.

Yadagiri demanded the government convene a cabinet sub-committee to resolve the issue of implementing basic pay, with an announcement as part of the upcoming PRC, and job security within three months.

The employees also demanded the government abolish the practice of terminating their employment for two days every year under the guise of ‘re-engagement’. Health cards, ex-gratia payments, and wages for the 29-day strike period were among other demands put forward by employees.
