Nizamabad: Three youngsters drowned and another went missing after they ventured into the backwaters of the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) for a swim at Mupkal in Nizamabad district on Sunday evening.
The deceased were identified as Abbu, Khalim and Ammu, all residents of Auto Nagar in Nizamabad town. Rehan, a native of Bokaro, Maharashtra, was still missing at the time of filing this report, according to officials.
Six youngsters from Auto Nagar had visited the SRSP for a picnic. Five of them entered the project backwaters for a swim when they suddenly began struggling in the water and cried for help.
Alerted by their screams, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue one of the youngsters.
The police were informed immediately and deployed expert swimmers for the rescue operation. Despite intermittent rain, the teams recovered the bodies of the three victims, while the search for the missing youngster continued till late in the evening.
