Hyderabad: The series of tweets by Ram Gopal Varma raise a question: did the meeting with Andhra Pradesh Minister Perni Nani go really well? The director on Tuesday raised a slew of questions with a flurry of tweets in a bid to put an end to the ticket-price controversy.
Although he has been reiterating that the meeting has been amicable and the interaction with the Minister was satisfactory soon after it concluded on Monday, the questions that he is posing lately evoked new doubts in the film industry and for the people witnessing it from outside.
It may be recalled that the ticket price issue sparked a Twitter war between both RGV and Minister Perni Nani for the past week, until both agreed to sit down and iron out the issues on Monday. The AP State government has been maintaining that low-ticket prices in theatres enabled poorer sections to watch star hero films comfortably without much hassle and brought a resolution in the Assembly, and soon a Government Order (GO) was out instructing the theater owners to strictly adhere to the rules. However, it miffed industry bigwigs and exhibitors in the State.
In a fresh tweet on Monday, Varma appealed to the State government to leave the issue of ticket pricing and number of screenings per day to the film industry and advised the officials to focus on bringing transparency on tickets sold at the box office in order to fetch taxes.
In a fresh tweet, he wrote, “I request the honourable minister @perni_nani and his team and also my colleagues in the film industry to have a healthy debate both among themselves and also with each other instead of resorting to mud throwing matches.”
