Kothagudem: The movements of a tiger have been reported in the forests of Amararam village in Pinapaka mandal in the district. According to a local shepherd, D Ramesh, the tiger attacked his cattle herd at Jajulacheruvu area in the forests and killed a cow on Friday. On learning about the incident, District Forest Officer (DFO) Ranjith Naik visited the spot along with the conservator of forests Bheema Naik and other officials to take stock of the situation.

Speaking to Telangana Today on Saturday, the DFO said the pug marks of a tiger were spotted in the forests. Teams have been formed and a camp has been set up in the forests to monitor the movements of the tiger. The locals were cautioned not to venture into the forests and not to harm the big cat by laying electric and other traps in the forests, he said while Manugur Forest Divisional Officer Manjula informed that camera traps have been set up in the forests to record the movements of the tiger.

It might be noted that the last sighting of a tiger reported in erstwhile Khammam district was in January this year. A villager who went to work in an agriculture farm noticed the tiger fur stuck the fencing wire of the farm at Madaram of Karepalli mandal in Khammam.

A few decades after the disappearance of tigers from the district forests, the movement of a tiger was first reported in Kothagudem district in November 2020. Then the tiger reportedly moved in and around Gundala mandal, said officials.
