Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Sighting of tigers in forest fringe villages and in agriculture fields of some remote habitations have become a routine affair in the district these days.

In such an instance, a tigress was video-graphed by a young farmer while she was quenching her thirst in a stream of Penchikalpet forest range under Kaghaznagar forest division in Kumram Bheem Asifabad. The clip went viral on social media platforms on Friday.

Elmula Gangadhar, a young farmer of Agarguda village in Penchikalpet mandal, said he shot the video of the tigress while she was drinking water in a stream. “I recorded the rare scene after hearing the roar of the big cat twice. I halted at the picturesque spot while I was heading to Gundepalli village,” he claimed.

Penchikalpet Forest Range Officer S Venugopal told ‘Telangana Today’ that the tigress had made the particular forest her home. Requesting the villagers not to harm the tigress, he said that its movement was being tracked and awareness was being created among the rural folks over the need to protect tigers.

Carnivores continue to be spotted by rural folks, farmers, motorists on the outskirts of villages situated near the forests. According to foresters, they are increasingly sighted as they have been searching for a safe habitat. “Tigers are territorial animals. They tend to live in a peaceful wild which is bestowed with herbivores and sources of water,” the official said.

Forest authorities said that eight tigers were residing in the forests of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. Some of them had migrated here from neighboring Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve many years back and settled in the wild of Bejjur. A tiger killed a tribal youngster Sidam Vignesh (23) of Digida village in Dahegaon mandal on November 11.
