Hyderabad: Promising opener Thakur Tilak Varma hit an unbeaten 156 while left arm pacer CV Milind scalped five wickets for 43 runs as Hyderabad began their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign with a massive 113-run victory over Tripura in the Elite Group A match in Surat on Saturday.

Tripura invited Hyderabad to bat after winning the toss and the decision backfired as openers Tanmay Agarwal and Tilak Varma scored 166 runs for the first wicket. Captain Tanmay also hit a well-made 86 in 100 balls while Tilak Varma hit 10 boundaries and five over it in his 145-ball essay. Himalay Agarwal (38 in 26; 3×6) and B Sandeep (41 in 23; 3×4, 2×6) added some quick runs to power Hyderabad to 349/5.

In reply, Tripura were all out for 236 runs in 42 overs with only Milind Kumar (67) and Bikramkumar Das (65) providing some resistance. Left-arm pacer Milind ran through Tripura batting order. B Sandeep and T Ravi Teja scalped two wickets each while Ajay Dev Goud took the remaining wicket.
