Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Thursday said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress’ plans to make inroads in Telangana will not succeed. “There is no place for TMC in Telangana,” he said.
In a statement here, he said TMC was testing the political waters in southern States and that some leaders in Telangana and Karnataka, were approached. But TMC would be a non-starter in the State, he said. “People remember that Mamata Banerjee was part of the NDA in the past and was a member of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Cabinet,” he said.
Meanwhile, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy expressed confidence that Congress would achieve the target of enrolling 30 lakh members in Telangana State as part of the party’s digital membership drive. The membership drive was launched at Kodangal on Thursday on the occasion of AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s birthday.
“I gave a commitment to Sonia Gandhi that we will enroll 30 lakh members in the State. There will be one enroller for each 34,000-plus polling booths in the State,” Revanth Reddy said. He added that Congress members would get a life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh each.
