Sangareddy: A toddy tapper died, allegedly due to the negligence of Telangana State Power Transmission Corporation (Transco) officials at Byathole in Kandi mandal on Wednesday.
According to Sangareddy Rural Police, Boyini Surendar Goud (44) was proceeding towards an Indian date palm tree on the outskirts of the village to tap toddy. He came in contact with live overhead electric wires, which had snapped and were lying on the ground. Goud died on the spot.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders led by Gollapally Jayaraju met Superintending Engineer Sudheer Kumar and sought action against the officials responsible for the incident. The CPI (M) leaders also demanded that the government pay compensation to Goud’s family. Locals said they had complained to local officers about the possibility of the wires snapping.
