Dubai: Telugu film producer Kedar Selagamsetty, who passed away following a heart attack in his sleep, was cremated here on Monday evening.

The filmmaker’s last rites were held at the Jebel Ali Hindu crematorium in Dubai in the late evening hours in the presence of his family and relatives. The family collected the ashes on Tuesday to be immersed back home in India.

The 37-year-old was found dead in his flat in the posh neighbourhood of Jumeriah a week ago. The police probed the case and conducted the postmortem. According to family sources, the Dubai Police have ruled out any foul play and disaffirmed any criminal motive behind the death. The Dubai Police, known for its fair and impartial investigation, cleared the case and recommended the handing over of the body to the family.

However, the delay in receiving a No Objection Certificate from the Indian Consulate caused the delay in receiving the body and the subsequent delay in the funeral, family sources said. The No Objection Certificate issued by the Indian diplomatic mission is mandatory to receive an Indian national’s body abroad. The family opted Dubai for the final resting place for Kedar to avoid unnecessary media attention.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s comments on Kedar’s death had sparked a political controversy in the State. Prior to moving to the UAE, Kedar had managed pubs in Hyderabad
