Los Angeles: Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has crossed the USD 2 billion mark at the global box office, becoming the second-fastest film ever to reach the milestone after “Avengers: Endgame”.
The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film achieved the feat in 17 days, Sony Pictures said, adding that it is also the first release of 2026 to cross the USD 2 billion mark worldwide.
Superhero ensemble “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) remains the fastest film to reach USD 2 billion, having done so in 11 days.
According to the studio, the film collected USD 785 million in North America and USD 1.23 billion internationally by its third weekend, taking its worldwide gross to USD 2.022 billion.
In India, the film has grossed Rs 538 crore so far, with its third weekend adding Rs 28.7 crore to the tally. It was released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada in the country.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the eighth film in history to cross the USD 2 billion mark and has become the highest-grossing instalment in the “Spider-Man” franchise to date, surpassing 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, which grossed close to USD 1.9 billion.
The film is the fourth instalment in Holland’s run as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He previously played the fan-favourite superhero in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
Cretton previously directed the Marvel superhero film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021).
The story picks up after the events of “No Way Home”, in which a spell cast by Doctor Strange made the world forget Peter Parker’s identity, leaving him to navigate life alone.
Besides Holland, the movie also brings back Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as MJ and Ned, respectively. The cast also includes Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka Punisher; Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, aka Hulk; and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, with Florence Pugh making a cameo appearance as Yelena Belova, aka Black Widow.
For Holland, Zendaya and Bernthal, the film’s success comes as a double delight. The trio also starred in Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic “The Odyssey”, currently running in theatres.
The film, in which Holland plays Telemachus, Zendaya appears as Athena and Bernthal essays Menelaus, has crossed the USD 1 billion mark worldwide.
