Kothagudem: Outlawed CPI (Maoist) Dakshina Bastar tech team commander Kursam Ganga alias Aithu alias Rammaiah died of Covid-19, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt said on Thursday.

Addressing mediapersons here, the SP said Aithu, who was a native of Gornam village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Khammam.

The death of the Maoist came to light following the arrest of a Maoist courier Sodi Seethaiah and militia member Kunja Jogaiah of Chintoor mandal in East Godavari district and Dakshina Bastar supply team member Savalam Pojja of Bijapur.

The police arrested them during vehicle inspections at Manugur on Thursday when 10 gelatin sticks, three detonators, four batteries, cordex wire bundle and 20 metres electric wire were seized from their possession.

The arrested persons further revealed that top Maoist leaders Sowbrai, Rajesh, Nandu, Sagar and several dalam members died of Covid-19. Treatment given to them by the Maoist battalion doctors had only worsened their condition leading to their death, the SP said.

Maoists who are infected with coronavirus should surrender to the police and the department would provide them medical care, he said, and urged them not to organise meetings in Adivasi villages since such gatherings were spreading the disease in the habitations.

Manugur ASP Shabarish P and others were present.
