Hyderabad: Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu laid the foundation for an Extra High Voltage power transformer plant at the Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited premises in Rudraram, Sangareddy on Friday.

The plant is being set up at a cost of Rs 177 crore as part of the company’s expansion plans. Later, the Minister inaugurated the manufacturing facilities for the CRGO Core Processing Centre (Rs 65 crore) and Surge Arrester Unit (Rs 105 crore), established with a cumulative investment of Rs 347 crore.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister stated that Telangana had rapidly progressed in the manufacturing sector. For 2024–25, the State is expected to register an industrial output of Rs 2.77 lakh crore, of which 48 percent would be from the manufacturing sector.

In just nine months, merchandise exports worth Rs 1 lakh crore have been recorded from the State. The GSDP growth rate stands at 8.2 percent, which is higher than the national average, he said.

“We are setting up exclusive Green Energy Equipment Zones to invite global giants like Toshiba to invest in sectors such as batteries, power components and smart grids,” Sridhar Babu said, adding that Toshiba and the State government were also launching an R&D hub for smart energy solutions.
