Hyderabad: Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday said tough decisions had to be taken in the present scenario as there were many difficulties in implementing rivers interlinking project.
Speaking at the 35th annual general meeting of National Water Development Agency (NWDA) at Vignan Bhavan in New Delhi, he said, “Water is a great challenge to the country and the world, and countries’ future is dependent on the development of water sector.”
Stating that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of many projects have been prepared and shared with the States, he asked the delegates, who attended on behalf of their States, to deliver their views in a national perspective and not in a regional and political perspective.
On behalf of Telangana, OSD in Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Sridhar Rao Deshpande and Engineer-in-Chief B Hari Ram attended the meeting. Expressing his views on behalf of Telangana, Hari Ram said water availability and location had to be firmed up involving donor State and obtain consensus among the participating State.
“To establish our rights in Godavari basin, the DPRs of half a dozen projects need to be approved by the Ministry of Jal Shakti,” he said.
