Tourists from Telangana and Andhra among 15 killed in Vietnam boat capsize

At least 15 Indian tourists, mostly from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, died after a boat capsized near Phú Quốc Island in southern Vietnam. The Indian Embassy confirmed ongoing rescue operations and has set up emergency centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist families.

Hyderabad: At least 15 Indian tourists, including several from Telugu states, died after a boat capsized in Vietnamese waters on Saturday. Reports indicate that the vessel was carrying 30 tourists from Andhra Pradesh, 45 passengers from Telangana, along with three crew members and one attendant.

According to media reports, the death toll has risen to 19, with most of the victims belonging to the Telugu states. Two tourists from Andhra Pradesh are safe while three others were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred near Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam when the boat was en route to An Thoi Port. The visuals circulating on social media show rough sea conditions as local authorities attempt to rescue people. 

Confirming the tragic boat accident, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam said a search and rescue operation is underway. 

“In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam a few hours ago.” It added that the “exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing,” the embassy said in a statement, adding that it had set up emergency ​response centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist affected families.

As per information received from official sources, the following 32 Indian tourists were onboard the boat which capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam a few hours ago.
