Hyderabad: The TPCC has demanded Bharat Ratna award for former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of 30th Sadbhavana Yatra commemoration day at Charminar here on Monday. Sam Pitroda, the advisor to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on public information infrastructure and innovation, and a close confidant of Rajiv Gandhi was given the Sadbhavana award via video conference.

Speaking on the occasion AICC In charge Manickam Tagore said that Congress believes in true Gandhian philosophy and secularism. “It is our tradition to respect all religions and all communities. I am glad I have a chance to work with leaders who worked with Rajiv Gandhi,” he said. He said that Rajiv Gandhi has planned and implemented programmes that were meant for the future of the nation unlike present day PMs.

“Rajiv Gandhi deserves Bharat Ratna as he is not a person but an institution that worked for the future of the country,” he said. He added that even Rahul Gandhi has a vision for the next three decades of the country. Responding to the honour, Sam Pitroda said that the country progressed in several sectors during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi. “He was very close to me. He struggled to strengthen the Panchayat Raj and encouraged young leadership,” he said.

TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former ministers Shabbir Ali, Geetha Reddy, former MPs V Hanumantha Rao, Madhu Yashki Goud and Sadbhavana Committee Chairman Niranjan also addressed the meeting.
