Hyderabad: The Telangana Private Degree and PG Colleges Management Association (TPDMA) on Thursday announced that it would continue to boycott universities degree examinations scheduled to begin on May 14, citing inordinate delay in releasing fee reimbursement arrears by the State government.

This decision was taken during an online meeting convened by the association with the college managements, which expressed growing frustration over the government’s failure to release the funds despite making numerous pleas. Earlier, the association boycotted the Mahatma Gandhi University and Telangana University degree exams over the fee arrears issue.

The TPDMA said although the universities, including Mahatma Gandhi University, Satavahana University and Osmania University, announced the schedules for the degree second, fourth and sixth semester examinations, several colleges have been struggling to pay the exam fee of students and have not even been able to register students due to financial constraints.

During the meeting, the managements decided not to collect exam material, download hall tickets and cooperate with exams proceedings unless fee reimbursement arrears were cleared. Some college owners complained that their institutions were not listed in the ongoing Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) 2025 counselling, further complicating the issue.

The association wanted the government to pay at least Rs 300 crore fee reimbursement arrears for the colleges to commence the operations and hold the examinations.

As arrears have not been released for the two academic years, colleges were struggling to cover daily expenses and facing severe financial hardship due to the outstanding dues, the association said.

According to TPDMA general secretary Ramakrishna said building owners of about 10 colleges have clocked their premises over unpaid dues by the managements.

“We are not against students but we are fighting to protect the institutions that serve them,” said Dr B Suryanarayana Reddy, president TPDMA.
