Hyderabad: Representatives of the Telangana Public Health Doctors Association (TPHDA) on Friday urged the state government to appoint in-service PG-qualified doctors as Assistant Professors in the Directorate of Medical Education Telangana (DME) through the ‘lateral entry’ system.

In this connection, the members of TPHDA met Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Friday and submitted a memorandum.

The TPHDA members, while interacting with the Health Minister, said that there is a severe shortage of specialist doctors in government medical colleges. By appointing specialist doctors, who are currently working under the Director of Public Health Telangana (DPH), into medical colleges and hospitals through lateral entry, the state government can bridge the gap in medical faculty. Such a move would also ensure uninterrupted speciality healthcare services for the poor.

According to TPHDA representatives, the Health Minister advised officials to take necessary steps to complete the lateral entry process for eligible in-service PG doctors as quickly as possible.

The TPHDA representatives who met the Health Minister included Dr Katti Janardhan, Dr Rambabu, Dr Anil, Dr Abhiram, Dr Shripathi, Dr Priyanka, and others.
