Karimnagar: The one-day nationwide strike called for by Trade Unions in protest against the anti-workers’ and anti-farmers’ policies of the Union government evoked good response from workers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Thursday.

All national-level trade unions had given the call to observe a one day strike on Thursday. Responding positively to the strike call, workers of all Trade Unions including AITUC, CITU, IFTU and others staged protest demonstrations across the old Karimnagar district.

Besides taking out rallies, dharnas and rasta rokos were also staged in front of district collectorates and other government offices.

Activists of Trade Unions including CITU, AITUC and IFTU took out a huge rally from Arts College ground to Karimnagar collectorate office where they staged a dharna.

In the wake of the rally, police deployed a huge force to avert any untoward incident. Meanwhile, CITU workers staged a rasta roko at NTR chowk of Kothapalli, forcing the vehicular traffic on Karimnagar-Jagitial main road came to standstill for more than half an hour.

Speaking on the occasion, trade union leaders criticised the Central government for implementing anti-workers and farmers’ policies. Instead of the working class, the central government was taking decisions to benefit corporate companies.
