Nirmal: A 39-year-old trader died, allegedly by suicide, after suffering losses of nearly Rs 70 lakh in online betting and fertilizer trading at Ranapur village in Sarangapur mandal on Friday. However, the incident came to light on Saturday.
Police said Srikanth Jadav Prem Kumar took the extreme step by consuming pesticide after being distressed over heavy financial losses incurred through online betting and his fertilizer business.
His body was found by shepherds in an open area on the outskirts of Chincholi (B) village on Saturday morning.
Prem Kumar is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
According to the police, despite repeated warnings from his father, Prem Kumar continued to invest large sums in online betting applications after becoming addicted, eventually suffering losses of around Rs 70 lakh. He had been running a fertilizer shop in Nirmal, which he later shut down following the financial crisis, and was staying at Ranapur.
