Mancherial: Some unscrupulous elements believed to be among traders in the town were reportedly attempting to occupy a piece of land meant for construction of a school in Hi Tech City Colony. The value of the land being occupied is around Rs 10 crore.
The land situated near a temple was earmarked for construction of a school in the colony at the time of developing the venture way back in 2006. Currently, the going rate for land in this colony is around Rs 30,000 per square yard. With the attempts to grab the land illegally coming to light, the municipal authorities put up a board cautioning action against those who trespass into the land.
Despite this, a fence with iron sheets has been installed around the plot, shocking residents of the colony. It was alleged that some traders supported by politicians were trying to take over the land. Local residents have urged the municipal officials to protect the land. Officials asserted that the land was meant for a school and any attempt to occupy it would attract strong legal action.
Meanwhile, the Hi-Tech City Colony Welfare Association was cancelled due to reasons unknown recently. This has reportedly led to land encroachment. The colony residents recalled that traders had tried to grab the land in the past, but were prevented after members of the association lodged complaints with police.
