Mancherial: Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D Uday Kumar Reddy on Thursday warned that Preventive Detention (PD) Acts would be invoked against persons who trade in spurious cotton seed. He was addressing licensed seed traders and dealers at a programme held in Thandur mandal centre on Thursday. The programme was held jointly by the police and the agriculture department.
Uday Kumar advised the traders and dealers not to defame themselves by involving the menace of selling sub-standard seeds. He warned that stringent action would be taken against those who indulge in the offence. He told them to maintain records of the stock and sales. He stated that special task force teams were formed to prevent the unlawful practice.
The DCP further said that surprise raids would be carried out for checking the menace, by coordinating with authorities of the Agriculture department. He asked them to sell only quality seeds. He advised farmers to buy seeds at licensed traders and to collect receipts of their purchases. He told them to share information of organisers of spurious seeds with the police.
He asked traders to report the menace by contacting Dial 100 service and the identity of informants would not be disclosed.
District Agriculture Officer Veeraiah, Bellampalli ACP Raheman, Thandur Inspector K Babu Rao and many others were present.
