Hyderabad: In view of multiple Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Malkajgiri Traffic Police have issued a detailed advisory warning of congestion and announcing diversions in and around Uppal. The matches are slated to be held on May 3, 6 and 22.

Traffic police officials expect moderate to heavy traffic, especially on match days, with a large number of spectators heading towards the stadium.

According to police, traffic congestion is likely between 12 noon and 12 midnight along key stretches such as Nagole–Habsiguda via Uppal Junction and Boduppal–Amberpet via Ramanthapur. Commuters have been advised to avoid these routes during peak hours.

Traffic police said restrictions will be imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles, including lorries, trucks, tippers, water tankers, private buses and earthmovers, within Uppal traffic limits.

These vehicles will be diverted at multiple locations, including Nagole, Habsiguda and Ghatkesar, to ease congestion near the stadium.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Ghatkesar towards Uppal will be diverted at the HMDA Bhagayath entrance near Mehfil Hotel towards Nagole and LB Nagar.

Likewise, traffic from LB Nagar will be rerouted at Nagole Metro Station towards Boduppal and Chengicherla. Vehicles approaching from Tarnaka and Ramanthapur will be diverted via Nacharam and NFC Rotary towards Cherlapally and Ghatkesar.

Additionally, long-distance vehicles travelling between Hyderabad and Warangal via Uppal have been advised to use the Outer Ring Road (ORR) through Ghatkesar or Abdullapurmet to avoid city congestion.

Police have urged citizens to opt for public transport, including RTC buses and the Hyderabad Metro Rail, to minimise traffic pressure and ensure smooth movement during match days.
