Train mows down flock of sheep near Ghatkesar railway station

More than 50 sheep were reportedly killed after being hit by the Dakshin Express near Ghatkesar in Medchal-Malkajgiri district during the early hours of Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Several sheep were killed after being run over by a train near Kepal in Aushapur near the Ghatkesar railway station in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to available information, the sheep belonged to herders from Julur Alinagar in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district.

According to preliminary information, a shepherd was resting near the railway tracks while the flock was grazing in the area.

Around 4 am, the sound of the Dakshin Express, travelling from Kazipet towards Hyderabad Deccan/Nampally, reportedly frightened the sheep. The flock ran towards the railway tracks and was struck by the speeding train, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 animals.

On receiving information, the South Central Railway (SCR) officials and police reached the spot and began conducting an inspection of the area. The exact number of sheep killed and other details are expected to be confirmed after an official assessment.
