The carcass of the sloth bear which was killed by a train near Areguda village.
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A sloth bear died when a train ran over it while the animal was crossing a railway track near Areguda village in Sirpur (T) mandal on Tuesday.
Sirpur (T) Forest Range Officer Ch Purnachander said the male sloth bear aged between 4 and 5 years was found dead by some railways employees on the Kaghaznagar-Sirpur (T) railway track near the village. A train moving towards Sirpur (T) hit the animal, resulting in its death.
The FRO stated forest officials rushed to the spot after being alerted by the railways’ staffers. Autopsy of the body was performed as per protocol of the Wildlife Protection Act and the carcass would be burned after receiving a report from a veterinary doctor, he added.
A female sloth bear aged three years was killed when a train dashed the animal on railway tracks in the same spot in June, 2019.
