Nalgonda: More than 70 transgenders (hijras) on Tuesday met the Superintendent of Police A V Ranganath and complained that Kaveri, a hijra from Choutuppal has been harassing them demanding Rs 3,000 per month for taking up begging in erstwhile Nalgonda district. Under the leadership of Hijras Association state president Laila, the hijras met the Superintendent of Police and submitted a memorandum to him.

Speaking after submitting the memorandum to the SP, Laila said that there were 350 hijras in erstwhile Nalgonda district and involved in begging for livelihood. Kavri was acting as a mafia leader by maintaining a gang and physically attacking hijras, who refused to pay Rs 3,000 per month. She put a condition to them that the amount must be given to her, if the hijras continue begging in erstwhile Nalgonda district. She brought 20 hijras from Jangareddygudem and Piduguralla in Andhra Pradesh state and  formed a gang with the help of them to establish her domination on hijras in the district. Her gang members were resorting to attacks on the local hijras, who were not paying Rs. 3,000 per month to their leader.

She said that SP has assured them to instruct the local police officials to take action on it and to do justice to them.
