Hyderabad: Transgenders will be appointed as traffic volunteers to regular the increasing traffic on the arterial roads of Hyderabad city.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday asked the officials to initiate measures and deploy transgenders at major traffic signals in high-traffic zones in the first phase on a pilot basis. On successful implementation, it will be expanded to other parts of Hyderabad in a phased manner.

The duties of transgenders will be on the lines of homeguards, to prevent signal jumping and other traffic violations. They also will be deployed at drunk and drive checking points, to assist the police personnel on duty. The officials have been instructed to finalise a special dress code and also fix their salaries on par with homeguards.
