Transient tiger goes back Maharashtra, bringing respite to farmers in Asifabad

An adult female tiger that had been moving through Kagaznagar division reportedly crossed the Pranahita river into Maharashtra, bringing relief to farmers. Forest officials recorded its pugmarks and urged villagers to remain alert amid continued tiger movement.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A tiger, moving in the forests of Kagaznagar division for the past few days, was reported to have entered neighboring Maharashtra after crossing Pranahita river at Thummidihatti, bringing relief to farmers and rural people.

Forest officials confirmed that the pugmarks of the adult female tiger were recorded in a farm near the river on the village outskirts on Saturday. However, they urged the farmers to be alert.


The tiger’s pugmarks were also noticed in different parts of Penchikalpet and Sirpur (T) ranges sparking panic among farmers recently. The tiger was sighted on a road between Agarguda and Penchikalpet a few days ago. It had strayed into the forests of the division after crossing the river a few weeks ago.

The farmers from forest fringe villages and interior villages were frightened over the tiger movement. They were afraid of taking up farm activities. However, Forest officials deployed animal trackers and installed CCTV camera traps.

The officials said that around four tigers were currently found in the divisional forests. They stated that steps were being taken to ensure safety of resident and tigers. They said that there were migration of tigers from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur district of

Maharashtra considering conducive living conditions for the tigers.
