Suryapet/Bhupalpally: A 45-year-old man was killed when a large tree fell on him near a newly constructed school in Chandupatla village of Suryapet district on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Kota Lakshminarayana, was travelling from Tanancherla to Chandupatla on a two-wheeler when the mishap occurred in the afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said that strong winds accompanying the heavy rains uprooted the tree, which fell directly on Lakshminarayana. Despite immediate efforts by local residents to save him, he died on the spot.
Suryapet district has recorded over five centimetres of rainfall in the past few hours, causing widespread disruptions including flooded roads and submerged crops.
In another news from Bhupalpally, a three-year-old child was electrocuted at RG thanda in Regonda mandal of the district on Wednesday.
According to family members, the child, Anjali, daughter of Banoth Veeru and Priyanka, was playing with the wires of an air-cooler in the house. As the cooler was connected to the switchboard, she suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.
Her parents were not at home when the incident occurred.
