Tree trimming in Madinaguda sparks concern over green cover loss

Hyderabad: Several decades-old roadside trees in the residential and commercial area of Madinaguda in Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits were chopped off on Saturday, raising concerns among residents and shopkeepers about the potential loss of greenery and impact on local green cover.
A short video of the tree-trimming incident went viral on social media soon after the trimming process started. The large trees along the roadside were trimmed using a huge amount of manpower and machines.
The trimming resulted in bare trunks as workers chopped off tree trunks. Chopped-off trunks and green branches spread across the area, blocking the road and causing traffic jams.
Local residents and shopkeepers expressed anguish that the area was losing lush greenery, which the area was cool breeze year-round.
The TGSPDCL and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) jointly took up trimming trees that caused hazardous contact with electricity wires, which led to untoward incidents during the summer season. As part of this drive, the tree branches that obstruct the electric live wires are being trimmed.
