Hyderabad: Bhukya Lakshmi and Kathle Maruthi from Telangana State have been invited as tribal delegates to participate in the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. In a rare opportunity, the two tribal delegates will receive hospitality of the Union government in Delhi from January 22 to February 2.

Bhuky Lakshmi, a member of the Lambada tribe from remote Gaddigudem Thanda of Nadivada village in Mahabubabad district, faced many hardships in her life. She joined a women Self Help Group and worked tirelessly to financially empower herself as well as provide quality higher education for her children. She also worked for the development of her village through several social service activities.

Similarly, Kathle Maruthi from the remote village of Chinchughat in Adilabad district, has been striving for upliftment of the tribal community through education. He has been creating awareness among tribal youth to make optimum use of resources available to pursue higher education as well as contributing for development of his village in terms of education, health and other basic issues.

Congratulating them on the occasion, Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said the selection of Bhukya Lakshmi from Gaddigudem Thanda in Mahabubabad district and Kathle Maruthi from Chinchughat of Adilabad district for the Republic Day celebrations, was an inspiration to the tribal community. She said both the tribals will be honoured by the State government after they return from Delhi. The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been inviting a male and a female delegate from the tribal community to participate in the Republic Day celebrations every year to instill a spirit of unity among the Scheduled Tribes in the country.
