Nirmal: A tribal teenager, who committed suicide allegedly depressed after being beaten up by a Sub-Inspector, died while undergoing treatment in Karimnagar on Wednesday night. His parents and relatives staged a protest demanding action against the Sub-Inspector, carrying the body at his native village Munyala in Dasturabad mandal on Thursday.

The family members of Madavi Nagaraju (19) and leaders of tribal rights organization Tudum debba staged a sit-in on a road near the village seeking justice. They alleged that the family lost its breadwinner after being assaulted by Dasturabad Sub-Inspector Jyothimani and when he was booked under drunk and drive case recently.

The protesters accused the Sub-Inspector of seizing motorbike of Nagaraju. They said that Nagaraju was returning after attending a function at his relative’s home on March 10. They stated that he tried to end life when he was humiliated after being thrashed by cops. The youngster was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Jannaram and then to a hospital in Karimnagar.

They, however, withdrew the protest when Nirmal DSP Upender Reddy assured them of justice. Post-mortem of the body was performed at a government hospital in Khanapur.
