Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the BJP State office in Nampally for a while on Wednesday when a large number of tribals came to register their protest against union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu’s statement in Lok Sabha that the Centre did not receive any proposal from Telangana government seeking increase in reservation for Schedule Tribes to 12 per cent.
Similar protests erupted across the State criticising the union Minister’s statement.
At the BJP State office, irate tribals raised slogans against Tudu denouncing his attitude in Lok Sabha on Monday. When the tribals tried to enter the party office, police prevented them by placing barricades resulting in a scuffle between them. Since the tribals did not heed to the repeated requests by the police to leave the premises, the cops resorted to mild lathi-charge and dispersed them. Scores of tribals were also taken into preventive custody. At the same time, the police did not permit BJP activists to come out of the office to prevent unnecessary clashes with protestors. A police picket was also posted to prevent any untoward incident at the party office.
Abids Inspector B Prasada Rao said the tribals, most of them associated with Lambada Hakkula Porata Samithi (LHPS), assembled on MJ Market Road to enter the BJP office to register their protest.
“We however foiled the protestors’ attempts and took 46 people into preventive custody,” he said.
