Hyderabad: Trinity Basketball Club and Supervek made it to Level 2 of the Annual League Basketball Championship while G 9 and Saints scored close wins in their opening games as the round robin matches of level 2 got underway at the Loyola Academy Basketbal courts in Alwal.

Leading 36-18 at half-time, Trinity Basketball Club won 63-47 against CCOB Basketball Club with Hunny and Samith being the pick of the players while the experience of Supervek team through Shiv, Satyadeep and Peter saw them coast to a 60-32 win over Hyderabad Rovers.

In a match of experience versus youth, Saints overcame a one-point deficit in the final two minutes of play with Melvin scoring a three pointer and Clifftone following up with an underbasket which put paid to the aspirations of Keystone Basketball Academy 59-55.  With Dinesh Kumar and Mithil Reddy striking it rich, G 9 barring a mid match slump held their nerves together to outscore Loyola 89-73.

Dinesh was in superb nick and the southopaw never let go any  scoring opportunity picking up gaps in the rival defence and with Mithil Reddy coming up with baskets at regular intervals kept their team ahead.  Loyola players looked sluggish even though Rahul and Sudershan were among the scores, the defensive rebounding and space in the keyhole provided the winners to seize the initiative and scored of missed attempts.

Keystone Academy players displayed superb resilience warding off the challenge from their more experienced rivals and after a slow start took the lead with Subhash and Rohan Roy covering the boards while Ayush Arumalla and Akash doing good in scheming.  However with a tally of 6 three pointers scored, the Saints team led by Melvin, Abhishek and Steven maintained their composure and with the last 5 points scored in succession put to shade the solitary point lead KBA had going into the last two minutes of play.

Results: Qulifying to Level 2: Trinity Basketball Club 63 (Hunny 14, Samith 9) bt CCOB Basketball Club 47 (Ibrahim Rose Khan 18, Phani 14); Supervek 63 (Shiv 16, Satyadeep 12) bt Hyderabad Rovers 32 (Mahesh 12, Nithin 6)

Level 2 (round robin): G 9 89 (Dinesh Kumar 28, Mithil Reddy 23) bt Loyola Academy 73 (Rahul 25, Sudershan 20, Nathan Abraham 10); Saints 59 (Steven 15, Abhishek 10, Melwin 9) bt Keystone Basketball Academy 55 (Ayush Arumalla 15, Subhash 12, Rohan Roy 10).
