Karimnagar: Huzurabad Assembly constituency polled 2.25 per cent higher votes in the bypoll held on Saturday when compared to the figures from 2018 State elections. The voting percentage stood at 86.64% with 2,05,236 electors exercising their franchise as against the total 2,36,873 voters in the constituency.
Female voters outnumbered male voters with 1,02,712 women casting their votes of the 1,19,093 women voters in the list, while 1,02,523 men exercised their franchise as against the 1,17,774 total male voters.
When compared to urban areas, highest number of voters turned up for voting in rural areas with 80 to 90 per cent polling being recorded in many places as against 80 per cent voting in urban centers such as Huzurabad and Jammikunta municipalities.
Political leaders, who were busy campaigning till the last minute, are now busy calculating equations about the winning prospects of their candidates. Though 30 candidates contested the by-poll, the main fight was between TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav and BJP aspirant Eatala Rajender.
While TRS leaders were relying on welfare schemes and developmental activities, BJP depended on sympathy that Rajender got after his resignation.
Since high percentage of polling was recorded in rural areas, TRS leaders predict Srinivas Yadav’s victory with a comfortable majority.
As majority of beneficiaries of State government’s welfare schemes such as Aasara pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, 24 hours free current to agriculture sector were from rural areas, it is expected that they might have voted for the ruling party, a TRS leader said. He also said that Dalit Bandhu scheme has become an advantage for their party as Rs 10 lakh was deposited in the bank accounts of 17,000 families out of the 24,000 Dalit families in the constituency.
On the other hand, BJP leaders expressed confidence that Rajender would win the poll with a thumping majority and added that the sympathy which the BJP leader gained among the public after his resignation motivated the electors to cast their votes for the saffron party.
