Hyderabad: TPCC president A Revanth Reddy said the Congress will intensify its battle on paddy procurement and would not rest till the Centre and State governments purchase every grain produced by Telangana farmers. “We will not allow TRS and BJP governments in the State and at Centre respectively to exploit farmers,” Revanth Reddy said.
Speaking to media persons in New Delhi on Tuesday, the TPCC president demanded that the State government come to the rescue of farmers in the wake of the Central government deciding not to procure parboiled rice. Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy made an open statement at a press conference that the Centre would not buy Yasangi crops. Now, with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision not to set up paddy procurement centres in the next season, farmers are at crossroads, he said.
BJP and TRS governments were indulging in blame-game at a time when harvested paddy had reached procurement centres. By refusing to purchase the stocks, BJP and TRS governments were making it forcing farmers to approach corporate companies, he charged.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Sangareddy T Jagga Reddy said he would quit as TPCC working president if Congress failed to bag 230 votes in the MLC Medchal Local Authorities Constituency elections. Congress has fielded Jagga Reddy’s wife Nirmala Jayaprakash Reddy as its candidate in the elections. He appealed to the 1,027 local bodies elected public representatives in Medak to cast their vote in favour of Congress.
