Altercations took place between TRS and Congress workers at Madhira in Khammam district on Friday during the distribution of Kalyana Lakshmi cheques.

Khammam: A shouting match took place between TRS and Congress activists at Madhira in the district on Friday during the distribution of Kalyana Lakshmi cheques here.

The incident took place in the presence of Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairman L Kamalraj and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and Madhira MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka who attended the cheque distribution programme at Madhira Tahsildar office.

The ZP Chairman, who first addressed the gathering, alleged that Bhatti Vikramarka always arrives late beyond scheduled time for official programmes held in Madhira Assembly constituency causing trouble to the elected members and officials.

Kamalraj also said that there has been a delay in handing over the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques to the beneficiaries as Bhatti was not approving and countersigning the beneficiaries list verified by the officials in time.

Later, Bhatti noted that as an opposition leader, he would be busy sometimes and yet was making efforts to distribute the cheques in time. The MLA alleged that the delay in the distribution of the cheques was due to lack of budget by the government, but not because of him. Vikramarka further stated that he had directed the Tahsildar to distribute the cheques to the beneficiaries even if he was unavailable to do the same.

The ZP Chairman chimed in and questioned how the cheques could be distributed without inviting mandal level public representatives. Then, Bhatti told the ZP Chairman to maintain the decorum and not to interfere when he was speaking. Objecting to the MLA’s words, the TRS workers started shouting at the MLA accusing him of delaying the cheque distribution and making lame excuses.

It led to an altercation between the TRS and Congress workers who jostled each other. Then the police intervened and brought the situation under control. The ZP Chairman also appealed to the TRS activists to maintain their cool.
