Hyderabad: To build pressure on the Centre for procurement of entire paddy crop for Vaanakalam (Kharif) season, the ruling TRS has geared up its party cadre to stage State-wide protests in all Assembly constituency headquarters on Friday. The Ministers and MLAs will lead the protests in their respective Assembly constituencies. They will be accompanied by Parliament members, MLCs and other party leaders across the State.
Earlier, TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gave a clarion call to the party cadre as well as farmers to join the protests exposing the double standards of the Centre. Though the Union government is purchasing the entire paddy yield produced in Punjab, it has refused to extend a similar facility to Telangana. The Chief Minister had declared that the TRS will continue to hold protests in various forms until the Centre agrees to purchase the paddy crop from farmers of Telangana.
TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday asked the party cadre to gear up for the protests and urged farmers to join the protests against the Centre’s discrimination towards the State. With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) coming into force in the State ahead of the MLC elections, he asked the party cadre to obtain prior permissions from the respective district authorities for holding the proposed protests. The MLC elections to 12 seats are scheduled to be held on December 10.
Besides reviewing the arrangements for the protests on Wednesday, the Ministers, as well as the MLAs, have submitted requests to the respective District Collectors seeking permission for staging the protests. The TRS will organise the protests at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad. The party leadership is likely to make a formal announcement of the leaders who will lead the dharna.
Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav who reviewed the arrangements here, demanded that the BJP State leaders get a written assurance from the Union Ministers concerned assuring to procure entire paddy crop from Telangana. He urged the BJP leaders to stop making misleading statements asking farmers to cultivate paddy unless they convince the Union government to procure the entire crop.
At a few places like Karimnagar, the TRS leaders have invited the leaders from BJP and Congress to join the protests. Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar had invited the BJP leaders to stage protests along with the TRS activists and farmers, asking them to prove their commitment towards Telangana State and its farmers.
