TRS govt committed to weaker sections’ welfare: Koppula

Hyderabad: Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar on Monday said the State government was committed to the welfare of weaker sections in the State.
Speaking after paying tributes to Indian Independence leader Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 114th birth anniversary, he said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, drawing inspiration from the ideals of Jagjjivan Ram, was striving for the welfare of weaker sections.
He said that Rs.1,000 crore was allocated for the Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Programme in the recently presented budget, besides allocating as much as Rs.21,307 crore for SCs. Free English medium education was being provided to girls from SC community through 268 gurukul educational institutions, he said.
A separate law college and a sainik school was also established recently and Rs. 20 lakh scholarship was extended to those intending to pursue higher education abroad. He said Jagjivan Ram relentlessly fought against untouchability and inequality. Apart from working as Deputy Prime Minister, Jagjivan Ram, who worked as agriculture and defense minister, actively took part in freedom struggle and went to jail on several occasions.
In a similar programme, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said that Jagjivan Ram worked for the uplift of weaker sections in the country. The services rendered by Jagjivan Ram were inspirational to the present generation, he said after paying tributes at the statue of Jagjivan Ram of Telugu Talli Circle in Khammam district.
