Warangal: Alleging that the TRS government was misleading paddy farmers, former MLA and BJP leader Revuri Prakash Reddy said that the Centre had not told the Telanagana government that it would not purchase the sanna-rakalu (fine variety) paddy grain of the Yasangi season. He claimed that the FCI was ready to purchase the paddy even in the Yasangi if the farmers grow the fine variety rather than the “doddu-rakalu” (common grade) which is used for making parboiled rice.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Prakash Reddy said that there was no cap on the paddy to be procured from Telangana State, and added that the Centre want to supply only fine rice to the ration cardholders through the public distribution system (PDS). “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao made a statement on the floor of the Assembly on March 29, 2021, stating that his government would purchase each paddy grain. Asking the farmers to go for a fine variety of paddy, he even said that they would offer Rs 150 per quintal additionally for the fine variety. But, he has failed to fulfil his promise. Now, both he and his son Minister KT Rama Rao are trying to blame the BJP government at the Centre for its stand on sowing the sanna-rakamm paddy,” he said and added that the Chief Minister had also promised to allot Rs 1,000 for price stabilization fund (PSF) for the benefit of the farmers, but failed to set it up so far. If you are concerned about the welfare of the farmers, pay Rs 150 per quintal additionally for fine variety (sanna-rakam) and encourage the farmers to grow Sanna-rakam in the Yasangi season, the BJP leader added.
