Medak: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday announced that the TRS will soon launch a State-wide agitation against the Agriculture Acts brought by the Centre against the interests of farmers. He said the Acts will cause severe damage to the future of farmers which should be opposed tooth and nail by all.

Addressing a farmers’ rally in support of TRS at Chegunta in the district ahead of the Dubbak bypoll, Harish Rao said the Centre got the Agriculture Bills passed using their strength in Parliament. He said while the Acts were enacted on April 27 this year, the Centre wrote a letter to the State government on May 17 suggesting that they issue electricity bills to farmers without subsidy.

“The Union government also promised Rs 2,500 crore funds if the State government fixes electricity meters on all farm connections. But on June 2, our Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao replied to the Centre making it clear that electricity meters will not be fixed for farm connections,” he said, and urged the farmers to decide if they wanted electricity meters or uninterrupted power supply in their agricultural lands.

The Minister urged farmers to bury the BJP in the ground for cheating farmers and trying to dent their growth to favour the corporates. He reminded that the BJP government at the Centre had reduced import duty against maize by 35 per cent allowing its import. He demanded that the BJP leaders explain to farmers who will purchase maize from local farmers after allowing maize imports at cheaper price.

Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, TRS candidate Solipeta Sujatha, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders also attended the meeting.
