Hyderabad: The TRS party will be conducting three-day festivities as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations from March 6 to 8.
On Thursday, TRS working president KT Rama Rao held a teleconference with MLAs, the party leaders and workers on the festivities to be organised on Mahila Bandhu K Chandrashekhar Rao’s women oriented welfare and protection programmes.
On March 6, the celebrations would commence with different sections of women tying Rakhis to the Chief Minister. Later, students, doctors, sanitation workers and SHGs groups leaders would be felicitated. This would be followed with human chains resembling “Thank You KCR”.
On March 7, TRS leaders would visit the houses of Kalyana Lakshmi, KCR kits and other welfare programmes beneficiaries and interact with the family members.
On the last day, there would be special meetings with women at constituency level to discuss different issues and involve them in different programmes.
Telangana was the only State where 10 lakh marriages were performed under the Kalyana Lakshmi programme. Similarly, 11 lakh have benefited through KCR kits distribution programme, said KT Rama Rao.
Due to the effective implementation of KCR kits distribution programme, there was a drastic decline in mother and child mortality rates in the State. On the other hand, deliveries had increased substantially in government hospitals, he said.
Under the programme, each beneficiary gets Rs.13,000 worth benefits and Rs.1700 crore was spent towards implementation of the programme, he explained.
Similarly, the State Government has spent about Rs.9022 crore towards Kalyana Lakshmi programme, which has benefited over 10.30 lakh women so far, he said.
The TRS working president further said Telangana Government was extending Asara pensions to single women and beedi workers, besides interest-free loans to women SHGs. As a means to boost the confidence of women, She Teams and Bharosa Centres were set up, he pointed out.
To promote education among women, exclusive residential schools and junior and degree colleges were established. This apart, 70 lakh health and hygiene kits were distributed across the State, he said.
“While others were confined to announcing Beti Padhao and Beti Bachao slogans, Telangana government was extending quality education to girls and ensuring the safety and protection of women through several programmes,” said Rama Rao.
As the State Government was implementing such welfare and development programmes especially for women and achieved significant milestone, there was a need to celebrate the International Women’s Day on a grand note this year.
