TRS to contest 57 divisions in KMC elections

TRS is contesting the elections in alliance with CPI. While TRS will contest from 57 of the 60 municipal wards, three seats have been allotted to CPI.

Khammam: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) released the final list of contestants on Thursday, the last day for withdrawal of nominations for the Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections.

TRS is contesting the elections in alliance with CPI. While TRS will contest from 57 of the 60 municipal wards, three seats have been allotted to CPI. It may be noted that of the 60 municipal divisions; 14 wards are unreserved, 16 reserved for general women and 20 wards for BCs, seven wards for SCs and three wards reserved for STs.


As per the reservation quota fixed by the municipal authorities, 20 wards have been reserved for Backward Classes (BCs), but the TRS fielded 24 candidates from BC community as the BC candidates were fielded in four general seats.

SC candidates in five divisions, ST (Lambada) candidates in three divisions, minority candidates in four divisions were fielded while OC candidates were fielded in 21 divisions. Of the three candidates the CPI fielded two belong to SC and one to BC community.

TRS set to win 10th division unanimously

Meanwhile, the TRS is set to win the 10th division unanimously as the Congress candidate V Dhanalakshmi withdrew her nomination and quit the party. She joined the TRS along with her husband Vangaveeti Srinivas and 200 Congress workers in the presence of Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

In all, four candidates, including the TRS, have filed nominations for the 10th division. One BJP and one independent candidate have also withdrawn their nominations paving the way for the TRS candidate, Chava Madhuri to get elected unopposed in the election.
