Hyderabad: Upping the ante against the BJP government at the Centre for its anti-farmers’ policies, the TRS has decided to join hands with like-minded political forces at the national level and support their efforts to dethrone the saffron party at the Centre. TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is likely to meet the heads of such political parties in the near future to discuss possible alliances in this regard.
“We do not want an anti-farmer government at the Centre. The BJP-led Central government is clearly adopting anti-farmer policies. We will join hands with all political forces which are trying to dethrone the BJP government and extend our full support in their endeavours. The Chief Minister will take appropriate decisions at appropriate time in this regard,” Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman and TRS MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan here on Monday, Rajeshwar Reddy said the TRS government would support the Central government which would procure paddy and adopt pro-farmer policies. He asserted that the TRS would not support the Union government which was against paddy cultivation in the State.
“Farmers are being forced to avoid paddy cultivation in Telangana during Yasangi (Rabi) season and the credit goes to the BJP government. Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy are making contradictory statements which in turn is leading to confusion among farmers who are giving up paddy cultivation due to the prevailing uncertainity,” he added.
Telangana supplied 24 lakh tonnes of paddy to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in 2014 which has grown up to 1.41 crore tonnes in 2020-21. The State government has so far procured 42.22 lakh tonnes of paddy which is 11 lakh tonnes more than the paddy procured for corresponding period last year. Till date, Rs 5,447 crore have been deposited in the bank accounts of farmers towards paddy purchases.
“Telangana enjoys first rank in terms of agricultural development among major States. But the BJP leaders in Telangana have turned a blind eye to the ongoing development of the State especially its progress in agriculture sector. The cultivable land extent has nearly doubled in the State since its formation in 2014. More than Rs 50,000 crore have been deposited into the bank accounts of the farmers under Rythu Bandhu scheme following its launch,” he stated.
The ruling party is also strongly opposing privatisation of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) by the Union government. MLA Methuku Anand, TRS general secretaries Soma Bharath and M Sreenivas Reddy among others attended the meeting.
