Rajanna-Sircilla: Welcoming the Union Jal Shakthi Ministry’s Gazette notification announcing the purview of Krishna and Godavari River Management Boards (KRMB and GRMB), BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar opined that the true colour of both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers would be exposed.
Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, Sanjay accused both the Chief Ministers of trying to mislead the people through what he termed as “water politics” for their political gains. The BJP State chief wanted Chief Minister K Chandrashekahar Rao to clear his stand on Krishna waters. While AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was shifting Krishna waters illegally, Chandrashekhar Rao was least bothered about the Telangana share, he alleged.
On June 18 and 19, 2020, the then Chief Ministers of both States in the presence of officials entered an agreement over Krishna River water sharing. While Telangana State was allocated 299 tmc, AP was earmarked 512 tmc of the river water.
When Telangana was eligible to get 575 tmc since 68 per cent of the Krishna basin was located in the State, how could Telangana Chief Minister agree for 299 tmc, he questioned.
He claimed that the BJP was trying to protect the interests of the Telangana State, while both the Chief Ministers were trying to misguide people. They were enacting dramas with an eye on Huzurabad by-polls. He advised both the States to go ahead with projects after getting permission from the Union government.
