Hyderabad: A delegation of Congress leaders led by Congress Legislative Party leader and Madhira MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka called on Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao seeking justice for Mariamma, a Dalit woman from Chintakani in Khammam district who allegedly died in police lock-up at Addaguduru of Yadadri Bhongir district. They also sought action against the police personnel responsible for the death.

Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting at Pragathi Bhavan here on Friday, Vikramarka said the Chief Minsister responded positively to their representation over the attacks against SCs and STs in the State, and particularly the Mariamma case. “The Chief Minister also agreed with us over the need to protect them, and ensure they don’t suffer further attacks and harassment from police personnel,” he said.

Vikramarka stated Chandrashekhar Rao ordered an investigation into the lock-up death, and the government also announced compensation for the family besides initiating strict action against any such attacks in future. The DGP was instructed to investigate into the alleged lock-up death while the Chief Secretary was directed to provide compensation to the family, he said.
