Hyderabad: TS Transco and Genco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao on Tuesday said the power utilities are ready to face the monsoon challenges and asked officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the rainy season.
Speaking at a review meeting with senior officials, Prabhakar Rao explained the methods to be adopted by the field officers to ensure reliable power supply and instructed officials to improve revenue by arresting leakages. Rao asked the field officers to maintain the uninterrupted power supply in their jurisdiction. As for the felling of trees, care should be taken not to cut them from the root level but trim it only to the required level.
While taking line clearances for any maintenance work, it should be published in newspapers and information must be given to consumers through SMS, the CMD said. He advised officials to fix the schedule area-wise to take line clearances for maintenance as well as for other works. Superintending engineers, divisional engineers and assistant divisional engineers were instructed to inspect sub-stations, lines and transformers periodically to prevent breakdowns and DTR failures.
Further, a majority of the steps to maintain reliability can be carried without any financial commitments, he said.
Rao instructed them to make short-term and long-term plans to maintain the reliability of supply. As for reactive power compensation, officials should see that the existing capacitor banks are in working condition. He asked officials to strengthen the ‘1912’ electricity control room to register complaints.
The Central government is planning to bring in a law to penalise Discoms in case of non-maintenance of power supply as per Standards of Performance (SOP). TSSPDCL CMD G Raghuma Reddy explained in detail the technical methods to field officers to maintain uninterrupted supply apart from improving revenue.
