Hyderabad: The Telangana State United Teachers’ Federation (TS UTF) on Saturday sought the State Election Commission (SEC) intervention and instructions to revoke suspension orders issued to some teachers during the recent gram panchayat elections.
In a letter to the SEC, TS UTF president Chava Ravi raised the issue of suspension of teachers who served as presiding officers during the poll in Chinna Kaparthy village of Nalgonda district. Though the returning officer II (RO-II) bears primary responsibility for the custody of ballot papers, the presiding officers were suspended, he said.
The teachers body also raised the issue of the suspension of RO-II in Chegomma village of Khammam district without holding a proper inquiry. According to teachers, the RO-II followed the procedures prescribed by the SEC.
“These incidents have deeply demoralised the entire teaching fraternity, which worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the elections, often disregarding the meagre remuneration and inadequate facilities provided at the polling centres. We request the SEC intervention in directing the district collectors of Nalgonda and Khammam to immediately withdraw the suspension orders and reinstate the affected teachers at the earliest,” the TS UTF said.
