Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) has urged political parties to confine their criticism to policies, programmes, past records and works of other parties during electioneering in GHMC elections and asked them not to resort to campaign based on unverified allegations.
In a statement here on Thursday M Ashok Kumar, secretary TSEC, said the commission had noticed that leaders of political parties were indulging in personal criticism based on unverified facts during the campaign. “Such personal criticism triggers chain reaction and vitiates electioneering which should be carried out in an atmosphere of restraint,” he said.
Bringing paragraph 4 and 5 of the Model Code of Conduct of the State Election Commission to the notice of political parties, the commission said no criticism of any aspect of candidate’s life which is not connected with his public life shall be made nor any allegation be made which are based on unverified facts or incidents. Criticism of a political party, when made, shall be confined to its policies and programmes.
The SEC sought the cooperation of all political parties and asserted that any violation of provisions of Model Code of Conduct will be viewed seriously.
