Hyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) on Tuesday directed the Director General of Police, Shivadhar Reddy, to submit a detailed factual report on the alleged encounter death of Sheikh Riaz, a rowdy sheeter.
The Commission, acting suo motu based on a report published in a vernacular media on October 21, took note that Riaz, who was arrested in connection with the murder of police constable M Pramod Kumar, died after police opened fire at the Nizamabad Government Hospital.
As per reports and police version, he allegedly attempted to snatch the service weapon of an Armed Reserve Constable and tried to flee, leading police to claim they fired in self-defence, resulting in his instantaneous death.
The TSHRC sought from the DGP a report detailing the circumstances leading to the incident, the status of any magisterial or judicial inquiry, and compliance with Supreme Court and NHRC guidelines on encounter deaths.
The Commission also directed submission of copies of the FIR and autopsy report with the detailed report, on November 24.
