TSLPRB recruitment notification draws flak over ‘Menstruation’ instead of ‘Mensuration’ error

The Telangana Police Recruitment Board's latest notification has drawn criticism after mistakenly listing "Menstruation" instead of "Mensuration" in the arithmetic syllabus. The error, along with fewer vacancies than expected, has sparked concern among police job aspirants across the State.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress government’s police recruitment notification, which has been issued after a gap of four years, has ended up being a laughing stock.

Apart from criticism from unemployed youth for notifying fewer vacancies, the notification released by the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) on Wednesday has drawn attention from many for its unique examination topic in the arithmetic and reasoning paper.

A biology topic, as per the notification, has been introduced in the arithmetic section, listing “Menstruation” instead of “Mensuration” in the syllabus for both preliminary written test and final written examination for recruitment to 275 vacancies of Sub Inspector of Police, State Fire Officer and Deputy Jail posts.

“Arithmetic: It will include questions on problems relating to number system, simple interest, compound interest, ratio & proportion, average, percentage, profit & loss, time & work, work & wages, time & distance, clocks & calendars, partnership, menstruation etc”, the notification read.

Menstruation is monthly shedding of the uterine lining in females of reproductive age, while Mensuration is a branch of mathematics that deals with measurement of geometric shapes.

This blunder by the TSLPRB has raised serious concerns among the police job aspirants, who stated that if the notification itself contains errors, how many mistakes might come in the question papers.

However, the Board rightly mentioned the topic ‘Mensuration’ in the arithmetic syllabus for recruitment to the posts of Assistant Sub Inspector in the Fingerprint Bureau.

Meanwhile, while the unemployed youth and police job aspirants have been demanding filling up of all 19,000 vacancies in the police department, the State government issued a notification for 7,437 vacancies, including 3,697 police constable (civil) and 1,052 police constable (AR). They have also been demanding the government enhance the upper age limit for recruitment to SI posts to 38 years and police constable posts to 36 years.

Dates for submission of online application form via the website https://www.tgprb.in/ will be shortly released by the Board. Candidates are advised to have themselves examined by a civil surgeon before applying for examination to ensure that they meet the prescribed physical and medical standards to avert disappointment at a later stage.
